Report Period Selection in CBAM Reporting: The Importance of the Right Start

One of the first and most critical steps to take when starting the Border Carbon Adjustment Mechanism(CBAM) reporting process is to accurately define the period to be reported. This step forms the basis of the entire report and directly affects the accuracy in the later stages of the process. So, how should this report period be defined in CimpactPro software and how does the system protect the user against possible errors?

Defining the Report Period Correctly: Timing and Flexibility

According to CBAM rules, a report is expected to be prepared and submitted within the first month after the end of a reporting period (e.g. the last quarter of 2025). CimpactPro is based on adherence to this official calendar but offers flexibility to the user:

  • Timing Flexibility: The software allows you to start data entry even before the end of the reporting period or to activate the report on the day it is due. So, you don't have to wait for the deadline.
  • Period Selection: You can choose the reporting period as required by CBAM (quarterly until the end of 2025, annually from 2026). The system does not impose any restrictions in this regard.

Most importantly, CimpactPro shares the official calendar and requirements of CBAM with users. Thus, users are always informed about what needs to be prepared on which dates and can plan their processes accordingly. However, the software does not impose this calendar as a constraint; it only provides it as a guide.

solution to the "Wrong Button" Problem: How to Fix a False Start?

What happens if a mistake is made at the very beginning of the report, for example in the period selection? Should the whole report be prepared from scratch? Absolutely not.

CimpactPro offers a practical solution for such situations. If an incorrect definition was made at the beginning of the report (e.g. the wrong quarter was selected), there is no need to start the whole process from scratch. The software simply corrects the incorrectly entered part of the report, allowing you to continue on the right track.

This is like correcting the first button on a shirt that was buttoned incorrectly. When you fix the wrong button, you don't need to button the other buttons all over again. CimpactPro works in the same way, correcting an initial line
